Prestovac reactors are a variation of the Mixmill mixer which allows chemical solid to solid, liquid to solid, and gas to solid phase reactions to occur under pressure inside the vessel. The fluidized state of the material exposes maximum surface area for the reaction to occur. The enhanced heat transfer promotes endothermic reactions and helps cool exothemic reactions.
These units can be designed per Section VIII of the ASME code for pressures up to 250 PSIG. The heads can be jacketed and the agitator heat traced to help promote heat transfer and prevent cool spots. Ball valves are usually used for charging and discharge due to the pressures involved.
Prior and subsequent mixing and drying steps can be handled in the same vessel, eliminating the need to transfer product between vessels. Multiple step processing can also reduce capital cost as the number of different processing steps can be reduced.
